How can a Wiretap Detection system locate a phone wiretap? Phone wiretaps are always placed on a phone line, be they close or far away. Wiretap Detection involves measuring the phone line to pinpoint the distance of the location of an electronic wiretap. How does the Wiretap Detection System measure the phone line?
Combining a Time Domain Reflectometer with physical line parameters*, HSS integrates a wiretap detector with a Wiretap Detection System to detect Series Wiretaps and Parallel Wiretaps without disconnecting the phone base unit or handset from the line. It can detect high frequency signals on the phone line residing within 0.02 / 30 MHz. It can also measure the effective voltage of the phone line beyond 10mV should there be any symmetric and asymmetric connections in which low frequency signals are operating within 20 / 20000 Hz frequency bands.
Wiretap Detection is not limited to a phone line. Wiretap Detection also involves the evaluation of high frequency signals coming from a 110/220 mains voltage line. These signals can be operating within 0.02 / 30 Mhz frequency bands with an effective voltage greater than 10mV, and they can be used to "carry" private voice conversations.
On Dry Lines (when there is a lack of current on the line) the CCTA-1100b can detect:
- Parallel Wiretaps
- Series Wiretaps
- Parallel Wiretaps through a capacitor
- Electrical "devices" with a non-linear characteristics of 5% composition as well as 0 / 100 Volt frequency band activity
- Electronic components that can make up a wiretap
Using its Time Domain Reflectometer, Wiretap Detection CCTA-1100b can measure the impedance and capacitance levels on phone lines.
Specifically, it can measure the impedance for Parallel Connections (wiretaps). It can measure the capacitance for Series Connections (wiretaps). It can measure parallel connections on a line even if there are many devices at various distances (hundreds of feet away).
Additional Wiretap Detection Features
The CCTA-1100b can:
- measure AC & DC voltage on a phone line
- measure resistance, capacitance, and inductance on a line
- measure a short circuit current and the loop resistance of a line
- store digital and graphic data from detection operations in internal memory
- enable stored memory to be transferred to a PC via USB port
The Wiretap Detection displays on its LCD the following:
- Pulse response graph
- I/V Curve
- Load characteristics of the phone line
- Lissajous Curve
Additional Detection Capabilities
- RF Alert: The CCTA-1100b can detect Radio Frequency transmissions from eavesdropping equipment such as a surveillance transmitter by using the included RF probe.
- IR Alert: The CCTA-1100b can detect Infra Red signals from optical transmitters that send voice or data using Infra Red light.
- Tone Sweep: The CCTA-1100b can initiate a Tone Sweep on the line being tested to activate infinity transmitter wiretaps that require a triggering event prior to transmitting phone conversations.
